Today, the Moscow Times published one sentence which revealed ongoing Russian paranoia regarding Soviet efforts to repress and suppress Soviet citizens.

Russia’s Interdepartmental Commission for the Protection of State Secrets has refused to declassify information on the work of Soviet law enforcement services between 1917 and 1991.

This, despite Ukraine declassifying, releasing and publishing many of the same documents on the internet. https://meduza.io/en/feature/2015/04/21/russia-will-cover-up-stalinist-crimes

Russia even declined to declassify a letter from 1937 which was openly revealed in the Ukraine archives. One must ask, who are they attempting to protect?  Is Russia attempting to revise Russian and Soviet history? Is Russia attempting perception management on the reputation of Russia? Is this one huge attempt at Russian propaganda, to control the release of documents which might prove what the world already believes?

A former member of the KGB, the former head of the FSB, the current President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, perhaps, has the most to lose if the truth is revealed. His de facto authoritarian rule might be threatened, at the very least his reputation would be tarnished.

Russia, once again, appears to be attempting to deny, deny, deny.

Deny a repressive past, deny brutal Stalinist actions, deny the truth.

Russia is guilty, the Soviet Union was guilty, let history determine the guilt.
